Dog Worms:

Worms are an internal parasite and can be transmitted from pet to pet and sometimes pet to humans, depending on the worm and it's lifecycle. Common worms for dogs are roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and heartworms. Common worms for cats are roundworms, capillaria and heartworms. Most worms infections are picked up through the stool of a pet. That is one reason it is important to promptly pick up stool from your pet and do not take your pet into areas where stool remains. Heartworm is different. This parasite is transmitted to you or your pet via a mosquito bite. This is why it is important to have your pets tested for heartworm each year and keep them on preventative medicine year round. Additionally, have your pet's stool checked by your veterinarian twice a year. These measures will help protect your pet as well as yourself.
