Dog Vomiting:
Vomiting is the active expulsion of stomach content. The process can be initiated locally at the stomach lining or by actions taking place away from the stomach that activates the vomiting center of the brain. It is important to cure the vomiting before your pet experiences dehydration or electrolyte imbalances. Vomiting should be differentiated from regurgitation, which is a more passive process of expelling stomach content.
Dog Vomiting Causes:
Ingestion of spoiled food, garbage, bones, foreign bodies, drugs, toxins, as well as infectious agents.
Dog Vomiting Treatment:
Treatment is directed at both the etiology of the disease as well as its symptoms. Toxins need to be neutralized or removed if deemed appropriate. Infectious agents are treated. Foreign bodies are removed. When determined safe, anti-emetics (eg. maropitant) can be administered.
Dog Vomiting Prevention:
Keep all toxins and foreign bodies out of pet’s reach. Keep pets up to date on vaccinations. Do not feed pets people food. Avoid toys and snacks that can break apart and be swallowed.
