Dog Diarrhea:

Diarrhea is loose stool which may have a higher than normal content of water and/or mucous. It is important to cure diarrhea before your pet experiences dehydration or electrolyte imbalances.

Dog Diarrhea Causes:

Ingestion of spoiled food, garbage, bones, foreign bodies, drugs, toxins, as well as infectious agents.

Dog Diarrhea Treatment:

Treatment is directed at both the etiology of the disease as well as its symptoms. Toxins need to be neutralized or removed if deemed appropriate. Infectious agents are treated. Foreign bodies are removed. When determined safe, anti-emetics (eg. maropitant) can be administered.

Dog Diarrhea Prevention:

Keep all toxins and foreign bodies out of pet’s reach. Keep pets up to date on vaccinations. Do not feed pets people food. Avoid toys and snacks that can break apart and be swallowed.
