Dog Coughing (Kennel Cough):

Coughs originate secondary to irritation of the windpipe (trachea) or lung. This irritation can come from within due to inflammation or foreign bodies. But coughs can also come from pressure on the windpipe, either at the neck or within the chest.

Dog Coughing Causes:

Infections (e.g. Kennel Cough); heart disease and foreign bodies.

Dog Coughing Treatment:

Anti-inflammatory medication; antibiotics; cardiac medications and surgery/endoscopy if necessary.

Dog Coughing Prevention:

Vaccinate against respiratory diseases (e.g. Kennel Cough); treat early heart disease; keep dangerous toys that may be aspirated, away from pets; avoid dusty or allergen laden areas.
