Dog Blood In Stool:

When blood is seen in the stool, it's appearance can help determine the source of the blood. Blood from the lower gastrointestinal tract (colon) appears red and is usually in flecks or streaks. While blood from the upper gastrointestinal tract (stomach and small intestine) appears more like a tarry substance. The seriousness of blood in stool depends on the cause of the blood.

Dog Blood In Stool Causes:

Infections, cancer, stress, parasites.

Dog Blood In Stool Treatment:

Treatment is directed toward the underlying causes of bloody urine. This includes: antibiotics for infections; surgery and chemotherapy for cancers; high fiber diet, anti-anxiety meds and/or antibiotics for stress colitis; and anti-helmintics for gastrointestinal tract parasites.

Dog Blood In Stool Prevention:

Make sure your pet is checked for parasites regularly (at least twice a year). Keep the area your pet voids, free of feces. Do not let your pet mingle with pets known to have intestinal parasites. Get your pet to the veterinarian promptly if bowel movements becomes frequent, difficult or bloody.
