Dog Allergies:

Not all itching is caused by allergies. Allergies can be caused by substances inhaled, ingested or even contacted by the pet. The intensity of the allergy can vary greatly. Allergies may cause varying amounts of itchiness, gastrointestinal disturbances or even respiratory problems (i.e. sneezing, coughing, runny nose). Your veterinarian's task is to identify the allergen and treat its effects. Efforts to avoid the identified allergens will help alleviate problems.

Dog Allergies Causes:

Pollen, dust, plant material and food are the most common allergens.

Dog Allergies Treatment:

Allergies can be treated by antihistamines, corticosteroids, avoiding the allergens and/or allergy shots (low doses of the actual allergen).

Dog Allergies Prevention:

The only way to prevent allergies is to avoid allergens. Allergy testing can identify your pet’s allergens.
